- media having the ability to convey more information and emotion, and
- allowing communication that can include implicit messages.
They recommended that people use high-interaction media for requirements-gathering, analysis and design, intensive problem-solving, conceptual collaboration, trust-building, cooperation, and communicating vision. They also went on to explain that effective “high-touch” skills enable less-interactive media to substitute for more highly interactive media. Again, their work emphasized how we communicate using the tools at our disposal.
So, with the how we communicate in mind, let us look at my Top Five Free Virtual Collaboration Tools (and I sadly have no stake in any of them). Large organizations often have intranets, virtual meeting rooms, videoconferencing technology, comprehensive project management software, and sophisticated, tailored online collaboration spaces. But what about medium-sized and small organizations? Entrepreneurs? Anyone on a business trip, operating with only a laptop, tablet, or smart phone and internet connection? In those situations, these tools can be a godsend.
